Home - The Patient Journey - I was told I needed sinus surgery
Sinus surgery is a medical procedure designed to treat chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, and deviated nasal septum.
This procedure aims to improve sinus drainage and relieve associated symptoms, such as congestion, facial pain, and recurrent infections.
Depending on the case, the surgery involves opening the sinus drainage pathways, correcting the nasal septum deviation, or using other techniques to restore normal sinus function.
Sinus surgery generally lasts between 1 and 4 hours and is most often performed under general anesthesia (asleep).
After the procedure, depending on your health status, you may either return home the same day or stay in the hospital for one or more nights.
The surgery is generally not very painful, but you can expect congestion for several days. Recovery time can vary, with time off work ranging from a few days to a few weeks.
Recovery after sinus surgery varies from patient to patient, depending on the complexity of the procedure. Generally, you can expect some discomfort, nasal congestion, and sometimes slight swelling around the nostrils where the camera was inserted. It is important to carefully follow your doctor’s postoperative instructions, including pain medication and proper sinus care.
Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor your progress and adjust your treatment if necessary.
